Carsten Winnewisser Freiburg Materials Research Center University of Freiburg Stefan-Meier-Strasse 21 D-79104 Freiburg, Germany Abstract. This paper describes theoretical analysis, fabrication techniques, and measurement results for frequency-selective surfaces operating in the millimeter and submillimeter wave region. The analysis is based on the method of moments with entire domain basis functions, obtained by the boundary-integral–resonant-mode-expansion method. This method is particularly efficient and applies to the analysis of thick metal screens perforated periodically with arbitrarily shaped apertures. Three fabrication techniques are discussed and applied: photolithographic etching, galvanizing growth, and milling. Prototypes obtained with the different fabrication techniques are presented. Finally, measurements of the frequency response of the prototypes are presented, based on a new spectroscopic tool called terahertz time-domain spectroscopy. In all cases, the measurement data fit very well with the simulations. © 2000 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers. [S0091-3286(00)03308-0]

An Intelligent Non-Trial-and-Error Design Method for Double Screen Frequency Selective Surfaces
An intelligent design method of double screen frequency selective surfaces (FSSs) is addressed in this paper. The employed unit cell is composed of two metallic screens, which are printed on both sides of a substrate. The presented non-trial-and-error approach is investigated based on the separate design of each screen. With the help of some physical intuition and an equivalent circuit model, i...
متن کاملNew UWB Shielding with Frequency Selective Surfaces
In this paper a Frequency Selective Surface (FSS) as a UWB electromagnetic shield is introduced. The proposed FSS comprises a quasi-J.C-Jerusalem Cross- and a copper ring, which are located at both sides of a FR4 substrate and can represent a S.E -Shielding Effectiveness- better than 20dB in 90% bandwidth of Ultra Wide Band frequency. This structure is compact and thin. Each cell comprises J.C ...
متن کاملDesign, Fabrication and Measurement of Two-Layered Quadruple-Band Microwave Metamaterial Absorber
The design, simulation, fabrication, and measurement of two structures of metamaterial absorbers (MA) is investigated at microwave frequency in this paper. By stacking of one layer structure on the top of each other, a two-layered structure is generated. The unit cell at each layer consisting of two sets of various circular and square patches are designed so that the structure exhibit quad band...
متن کاملDesign and Fabrication of a Quartz Crystal Resonator Used in a Thickness-Monitor Unit (TECHNICAL NOTES).
This paper deals with the design and fabrication of a quartz-crystal resonator used in a thickness-monitor unit, measuring film thickness in a film-depositing system. A purpose-grown quartz crystal is cut to form the desired wafer. Two gold electrodes are deposited on both surfaces of the wafer to provide electrical contacts. The resonance frequency of the resonator, at room temperature, and th...
